Weed Control - How to Kill Dandelions

A beautifully green lawn is what everyone strives for. Spring is approaching, so it's important to learn how to get rid of dandelions within your lawn with the proper weed control.

Even some of the best cared-for lawns contain yellow and white weeds and dandelions. These weeds are hard to control if not treated the right way. Since they are difficult to eliminate, there are ways to start by removing the entire plant from the root.

Prevention and maintenance

The visible dandelions are the ones you’ll want to dig up from the root. How do you do that? You could manually go out and maintain your lawn every week. Manually pulling the dandelions out from your lawn by hand, you will less likely be able to remove the entire stem and root. If you don’t have the time for that labor, our lawn care program can maintain your lawn and eliminate the weeds that invade your beautiful green grass.

In order to prevent the yellow and white dandelions from sprouting, it’s best to keep a thick lawn. Having your lawnmower at a high setting, along with providing it a regular feeding program will enable you to obtain a thick and healthy lawn.

How can you identify dandelions?

Identifying dandelions from other weeds can be difficult at times. Dandelions are broadleaf perennials. Dandelions can grow in almost any soil and are found in full sunlight areas.

Once spring hits, you will be able to see the new sprouts that start to emerge from the taproot. The taproot can be anywhere from 2 to 3 feet deep within the soil. These weeds grow yellow flowers that mature and later turn into white puffballs. These white puffballs contain seeds that spread through the wind and expand within your lawn.

When fall approaches, dandelions disappear, but the taproot survives because it hibernates deep in the soil. The cycle starts back up in the spring after hibernation.

In order to keep dandelions out of your yard, this root has to be killed! These are the weeds that you will pick up and blow to make a wish! You can wish them gone with our lawn care program today!

Digging out each dandelion weed isn’t practical. You may dig them out only to find more will return in a few days. Correct timing and the use of herbicides is the best method to control these fast-spreading weeds.  Our top-notch weed control products are designed to specifically kill dandelions. Rounds 1 & 2 of our weed control programs are targeted to both kill existing dandelions and stop their spread. If you have dandelions in your lawn, we recommend mowing them down 3 days after we apply our extremely effective treatment. This will give you the best results.

Weed control can be very frustrating and can test your patience. Be patient with the process of weeding dandelions out of your lawn and remember that instant results are not realistic.
